EU/USA/KOR- KIA Drops Sweet Rio in Geneva!!!The All New 2012 KIA Rio is here!!! Unlike it's curvy sophisticated sister all new Hyundai Accent, this sophisticated wild child will have a 3 door badged as a Rio too. Rio will share a 1.6L GDI (Gas Direct Injection) 4 cylinder engine good for 140 HP with 2012 Hyundai Accent. The best part about this news- there will be a Turbo option. Yes, a Turbo. This Turbo will have a displacement of 1.2 Liters, and will be tied to Hyundai/KIA's advanced Gas Direct Injection system for more power, and state of the art fuel efficiency. This 1.2 Turbo (1.2 Hyundai/KIA Kappa Engine) will be good for 129HP (130 PS), and we at Accent Planet will guess 50ish +/- MPG- considering the addition of GDI. (UPDATE: KIA Confirms 58.8 MPG for 1.2 Turbo) It will also share Hyundai/KIA's 1.4L Gamma engine good for 109 HP with Beijing Hyundai's 2011 Hyundai Verna. There will be a 1.1 CRDi (Common Rail Diesel injection) Engine for you oil burners in the Euro Zone, Australia, South Africa, and various other global areas.
The US of course will have a Sedan. Will the KIA Rio 3 door be the budget replacement for the long running Accent 3 Door Hatch that has been a Hyundai-KIA Auto Group cash machine and staple product for 15 years? Only time will tell.
We should expect some higher end options like it's sister 2012 Hyundai Accent, and we should expect lower end budget oriented options to make the base price much lower than Next Gen Accent as well.
Accent Planet predicts Rio will be priced from $9900 US to $17,000 US. It's a KIA, it's supposed to cost less than the Hyundai.
As you will see below the all new 2012 KIA Rio is complete with a tri deep dish gauge pod set with race red lighting scheme. KIA Rio will have projector headlamps with LED lighting strip- A first for an Hyundai/KIA Auto Group B segment car. From the looks of it, the KIA Rio is obviously set to take down Honda's Fit, and Volkswagen's Polo in various world markets.

I wish they had one with soul shaker wheels.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of 50mpg+ with a 1.2 turbo.
ReplyDeleteMan this car is piping. I like the Accent but I love the Rio.
ReplyDelete1.2 GDI Turbine sign me up!!
ReplyDeleteWell, the gauge set and dash panel layout are definitely nice looking, and give an upscale appearance for a smaller car. This Rio hatch certainly looks better in the darker and more bold color tones, whereas the beige, white, and pale silver just don't compliment the styling as well. It will be interesting to learn whether or not the 1.2L Turbo will be optional in North America, as it would probably equate to an EPA rating of around 49mpg. Nice car, for certain, . . . but, I'll wait for the Accent to compare!!! (andy)
